Teen Licensing Process

  • Leaner's Permit
    • Must be 15 years and 6 months of age
    • Pass three tests at the DMV
      • Vision Screening
      • Street Signs Test - Must answer all 10 questions correctly
      • General Knowledge Test - Must correctly answer 20/25
  • After Receiving Learner's Permit
    • Must have a minimum of 45 hours of driving practice over a 9 month period.
    • 15 of the 45 practice hours must be after sunset (night driving)
    • Students must attend a parent/teen PowerPoint presentation at a local high school.
  • Obtaining a Driver's License
    • Must be 16 years and 3 months old
    • Must pass a state approved driver education class and receive a
    • Complete a "behind the wheel" driving course (This is what BD Driving Academy does)
      • Course is about two hours a day for one week.
      • Each day consists of a minimum 50 minutes of student driving and 50 minutes of observing another student driver.
      • Day 7 of the course will consist of a road test on all basic driving skills, upon completion the student will receive a paper driver's license called a TDL-180.
  • After Receiving a Temporary Driver's License
  • The student will receive a notification in the mail for a juvenile licensing ceremony. They will receive a hard copy of their license here.
